Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Evaluations

Russell Mental Health specializes in evaluations of an individual with, or suspected of having, an autism spectrum disorder. All evaluations are uniquely tailored based on an individual's age and referral concerns.

Primary Evaluation Paths

Developmental Evaluation (Infancy – 5 years)
Used when there are concerns about a young child's communication, language, social functioning, and/or when there are suspicions of a possible ASD. Developmental evaluations consist of:
  • Gold-Standard ASD Diagnostic Measures: Standardized behavioral tools (such as the ADOS-2, ADI-R) to assess behavioral indicators associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Comprehensive Developmental Testing: Focused evaluation of the child's current levels of expressive and receptive language, cognitive thinking, problem-solving, daily living skills, and motor skills.
  • Emotional & Behavioral Functioning: Objective assessment of clinical behavioral functioning, emotional regulation capabilities, and emerging coping skills.
Psychological / Diagnostic Evaluation (6 years – Adulthood)
Offered for individuals ranging from school-aged through adulthood when there are concerns about social and communication skills, and/or suspicions of a possible ASD. Psychological/Diagnostic evaluations consist of:
  • Gold-Standard ASD Diagnostic Measures: Standardized tools (such as the ADOS-2, ADI-R) to assess for behavioral symptoms associated with ASD.
  • Comprehensive Cognitive Testing: Evaluation of thinking and problem-solving skills across verbal reasoning, visual/spatial reasoning, memory, abstract reasoning, and processing speed.
  • Adaptive Functioning Assessment: Evaluates independence across daily living, self-care, and community integration tasks.
  • Emotional, Behavioral & Executive Functioning: Evaluates behavioral functioning, attention/focus, motivation, emotional regulation, and coping skills.
Psycho-Educational Evaluation (6 years – College / Young Adults)
Offered to school-aged individuals and young adults in school or college with clinical concerns affecting academic functioning. It includes all components of the Psychological/Diagnostic Evaluation, supplemented by specific academic testing:
  • Gold-Standard ASD Diagnostic Measures: Standardized diagnostic tools (ADOS-2, ADI-R) to assess behavioral indicators associated with ASD.
  • Comprehensive Cognitive Testing: In-depth assessment of intelligence, memory, reasoning, and processing speed.
  • Adaptive & Emotional Assessment: Evaluation of behavioral functioning, attention, self-care, and developmental independence.
